President Ashraf Ghani has strongly criticized what he believes is a lack of coordination between security institutions following the sharp increase in insurgent attacks in Kabul during the past month.
In a meeting with the Afghan National Army (ANA) officers in Kabul, Ghani believes there are "capacities available", but stressed there was a lack of coordination between the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS)—the national intelligence agency.
He called on the ANA generals to prepare a five-year operational program instead of one-year plan, which is currently being carried out in the country.
Furthermore, Ghani warned that if any ANA officer is found involved in politics or serving for political figures would be expelled from the army. "No Major, Lieutenant or any other officer can work outside the system," Ghani warned. "If there are such people than remove them from their position."
