Pentagon says after the end of the year 2014 they will not target Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and other Afghan Taliban insurgents unless they pose a direct threat to the United States. Pentagon says being Taliban does not mean they will be targeted by the US.
Admiral John Kirby, spokesman for the defense ministry of the United States put a line separating Taliban into two groups. Combatant and Non-Combatant and said those who continue to target will be targeted.
United States forces have targeted/fought Afghan Taliban since the overthrow of their regime in 2001 when they rejected to hand over Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.
