Abdullah Calls for Policy Clarification

15 October 2014
During a meeting with commanders of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the Afghan National Police (ANP) on Wednesday, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah called for the government to more clearly define the terms "friend" and "enemy" as they relate to national security policy.
The terminology used for describing the Taliban has long been a contentious issue, most often surrounding former President Hamid Karzai's use of the term "brothers" to describe Taliban militants toward the end of his time in office. At the meeting, Abdullah reportedly said the approach the new government would take to separating friend from foe would be important in fueling the morale of the national security forces.
